NCBMC – the risen cooperative

By Estela Laylay

Nangka CARP Beneficiaries Multi-Purpose Cooperative (NCBMC) of Torrijos ARC, Barangay Nangka, Torrijos, Marinduque is a DAR assisted cooperative organized in September 1992 through auto-savings which later turn into a cooperative and registered with CDA on December 2, of the same year. Members of this cooperative collectively owned an 84 hectares cocoland so it started its operation on copra buying with 38 members and P7,600.00 share capital. The small business have grown up slowly until such time that nobody noticed that almost all of their capital has been lost due to mismanagement.

The cooperative was revitalized through the effort of concerned members and assisting government agencies and non-government organizations. Reorganization took placed and the new set of officers strived hard to continue their business which can sell 40 tons of copra per month. Coop operation became smooth and more ARBs & marginal farmers joined the cooperative. Other projects were added to coop’s undertakings such as lending with agricultural land collaterals, rice milling, carabao & cattle dispersal and reforestation project with the DENR.

Recently, the Development Facilitator linked them with the DSWD who is willing to lend them P150,000.00, an interest free loan that can be relent to members for Income Generating Projects (IGPs). Likewise, accreditation with UCPB-CIIF Finance & Development Corporation is on process which when approved may generate additional funds for IGPs.
